LIFESTYLE: 5 Quick Exercise Fixes

Life getting in the way of maintaining a fitness regime? Here are a few suggestions that are very accessible to attend! Drop-in’s welcome, inexpensive, and a lot of fun! Sometimes we all need a switch-up, and participating in one of these classes might just be the change you are looking for.

1 Spin class – Excellent workout! Classes are usually about 1 hour long, and boy does it ever make you sweat. Available at ultimately every City recreational facility and workout gym, Spin classes are out there ready for you to try. My recommendation? Port Moody Recreation Centre 9:15am spin class with Peggy. Intense! The key to Spin class is good music, so phone ahead and ask which instructors play the best tunes. Call 604-469-4556 to reserve.

2 30-minute hit – (Women only) – As the website says, “The “30 Minute Hit” was created to accommodate the busy lives of modern day women. This exhilarating and challenging circuit consists of techniques taken from boxing, kickboxing, general self defense, and core stability training”. Sounds good to me! This is the ideal workout for ladies on the run. Click on the link below to see various locations across British Columbia:

3 Bikram yoga – When I am feeling slow and sluggish I drag myself into the closest yoga studio for a pick-me-up. Bikram yoga does the trick for me. I must warn you, doing semi-complicated postures in hot hot heat (ideally up to 40.6°C) does not appeal to everyone. What I can say is that I have never felt better afterwards!

4 Cross-fit – Cross-fit is “the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. It is also being implemented in nursing homes with the elderly”. If you fit somewhere in between, cross-fit can probably help you. Feeling hardcore? Give it a try!

5 Running Room Drop-In sessions – Every once in awhile I will pop by the neighbourhood Running Room and join a night time drop in run. Cheap and easy – just bring yourself, runners, and a few dollars. No problem! Running with a pack will motivate you to come again and even possibly join a clinic.
