HEALTH: Indonesian Cooking Class, from Gili Trawangan

As part of my new tradition of taking a cooking class in every country that I visit, my mother accompanied me to a traditional Indonesian cooking class on Gili Trawangan. Our taste buds were pleased by the aromatic flavours of spice, heat, and sweet – not to mention us mastering the delicate art of rolling kelepan balls, and mincing chilli peppers without rubbing our eyes with our hands.

We opted for the Super Six cooking lesson, as it was marketed as the “full Indonesian cooking experience”. We learned how to make everything from gado-gado, Lombok chicken taliwang, to a scrumptious peanut sauce, and even kelepon (a sticky rice, palm sugar filled, glutinous dessert).
